Benefits of Music and Movement in Child Development

Thanks to my Early Childhood Education background and my ethnicity, I recognize the importance of music and dancing. In my previous job in a Montessori school, I gave salsa lessons to a preschool classroom.
My program uses music, dancing,p and psychomotor activities to help children gain confidence in using their bodies and to develop spatial awareness. The combination of music and movement helps the body and the mind work together.
Music ignites all areas of child development: intellectual, social and emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sound and meaning of words. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression, and it helps strengthen memory skills.
Other Benefits of Music and Physical Activities:
-
Improves self-esteem, enhances psychological well-being and has positive effects on school performance.
-
Develop temporal awareness (awareness of speed, timing, duration, and rhythm).
-
Improves aerobic fitness, muscle endurance, muscle power and muscle strength.
